The Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering Geology (SRMEG) can trace its origin to an interest group formed in 1998 under the Tunnelling and Underground Society Singapore (TUCSS). Since then, the group has grown, along with the growth in rock mechanics activities.

ACUUS is an international non-governmental association actively promoting partnerships amongst all experts who design, analyse and decide upon the use of our cities' underground spaces. ACUUS promotes also the awareness of the private sector, governments at all levels and the general public on the specific issues related to the sustainable use of the urban underground.

The NTU-MINDEF Protective Technology Research Centre (PTRC) is hosted in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University. PTRC’s R&D project with the Defence Science & Technology Agency (DSTA) on the development of underground space for civilian and military uses represents one of the most successful examples of joint R&D projects with the industry and government agencies. The project supports the national effort in constructing caverns and tunnels within granite, as well as sedimentary rocks for the storage of strategic materials.

The Tunnelling and Underground Construction Society (Singapore), TUCSS, was established in 1998. At present, it has near 417 individual members and more than 51 corporation members. TUCSS is affiliated to the International Tunnelling Association (ITA), and has close links with other tunneling and geo-engineering societies of countries around the world.
